Aging and Flourishing in West Chester, Pennsylvania

West Chester, PA November 18, 2014.  The Borough of West Chester, which has recently been designated a World Health Organization (WHO) Age Friendly Community, is embarking on a three-year assessment of its “age-friendliness”.  The assessment is a key feature of the WHO program that promotes the creation of programs and utilization of facilities that enable a community’s older adults to flourish.  Dr. Jasmin Tahmaseb McConatha, Professor of Psychology at West Chester University will direct the assessment, which is jointly sponsored by The Borough and West Chester University (WCU).  Under the supervision of Dr. Tahmaseb-McConatha, WCU students will conduct assessment interviews with older adults in the Borough, with West Chester officials and with representative of the business community.  In addition, Dr. Tahmaseb-McConatha and Mr. Tim Spellman, a filmmaker will produce a feature length documentary, featuring the stories of elders living in West Chester, PA.
