Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic attracts new sponsors, offers new sponsorship opportunities for the 15th Anniversary Edition

Whether you’ve been coming to the Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic since its inception in 2005 (then known as the Iron Hill Twilight Criterium), or this will be your first year, you’ll certainly notice the festive atmosphere and energetic vibe that permeates downtown West Chester on race day. With an average attendance of 15,000 to 20,000, a time span of six hours, and the support of a full-scale marketing program, the Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic has become a compelling promotional tool for businesses that want to enhance their image and visibility to adventurous, well-educated millennials. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the professional bike racing action and town-wide festival will take place from 3:00 P.M to 9 P.M. on Saturday, August 10, 2019.

“Our goal is to create an ideal environment for companies looking to increase their business through the positive exposure an event like this provides,” said Mark Yoder, President and CEO of the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce, organizer of the event. “Plus, the bike race has provided a solid economic impact and positive image for the borough of West Chester,” he added.

Over the last decade and a half, this iconic race continues to attract thousands of people from all over the region. Since signing on as the title sponsor in 2017, Benchmark Federal Credit Union reports that it has seen significant growth in the number of people who recognize it as the only federal credit union to exclusively serve Chester County. “We are a credit union that measures you by far more than your credit score, and supporting the Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic has gone a long way toward helping local residents and businesses recognize that. There’s no question that we have seen a major increase in brand awareness of our loans, mortgages and other financial services throughout Chester County,” says Benchmark President and CEO Daniel J. Machon, Jr.

Since day one (2005) when Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant was instrumental in creating the inaugural bike race, the Iron Hill Pro Men’s Criterium has not only grown to become one of the most prestigious cycling events in the region, it continues to be a mainstay in Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant’s marketing strategy. To this day, the popular West Chester gathering place remains dedicated to the well-being of the iconic bike race it helped create.

Throughout the event’s history, numerous events have been added to the schedule, opening the door to additional sponsorship opportunities. In 2012, amateur and junior bike racing was introduced in the form of a morning race-trials competition followed by an afternoon downtown criterium. Rothman Institute was quick to grab the sponsorship package and has continued as the event’s lead sponsor. In 2015, a team trike challenge was added, attracting Tolsdorf Oil Lube Express to sign on as the sponsor immediately. Now in its 10th year of sponsorhip of the kids’ race, Dr. Eric Fort, owner of West Chester Dental Arts commented, “We’re beyond excited to sponsor the kids’ race. Our staff looks forward to this event every year. It’s such an amazing opportunity for us to meet all the new members of the community and reconnect with old friends.”

This year, new sponsors continue to jump aboard. MacElree Harvey, a West Chester-based law firm, signed up as sponsor of the all-new Kids’ Zone, which this year will feature the Philadelphia Flyers Community Caravan, a family-focused attraction for kids and their parents that includes games, activities, giveaways, a giant inflatable hockey rink, and Flyer alumni. Also in 2019, Chester County Hospital has seen the value of being sponsor for the Community Festival that features a business bazaar, food stands, and booths of all descriptions.

“For the 15th anniversary edition, there are many levels of sponsorship packages available. From having a booth in the Community Festival, to race-course signage, to event sponsorships – companies of all sizes will find advantages in being part of the Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic,” commented Yoder.

A look back on the 15-year history of the bike race drives home the point of how much the event has grown since its first race in 2005 when only a few thousand fans lined the downtown streets to watch the inaugural event. It has now become a showcase for top professional men and women riders from all over the nation – and beyond – as well a showcase for businesses wanting to enhance their image and promote their brand.
