Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce Board Members Help Bag Hunger

Last Tuesday, September 17th, Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce board members participated in ShopRite’s Help Bag Hunger event, where they bagged groceries for ShopRite’s shoppers to combat local hunger.

Nearly 200 ShopRite stores host Help Bag Hunger, an annual event that takes place during September, National Hunger Action Month. Local leaders, like Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Mark Yoder, are encouraged to participate and raise awareness around the issue of hunger in our communities.

“Just because West Chester is a more affluent area nowadays doesn’t mean we don’t have individuals and families that go hungry,” said Yoder. “We always enjoy participating in ShopRite’s Help Bag Hunger event because not only are we raising awareness to the issue, but we are telling those that suffer from it within our community that we see them and that we are here for them.”

The event also raises money that is then donated to charities dedicated to solving hunger in local communities. West Chester’s ShopRite store donates to Philabundance, with proceeds going to Safe Harbor, Lord’s Pantry, Gaudenzia’s Warehouse, and the West Chester Food Cupboard.

Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce Board members that participated in this year’s Help Bag Hunger event included Lauren Blake of Miles Financial Management, Inc., Patti Campbell of YMCA of Greater Brandywine, Randy Christy of DNB First, Matt Holliday of Chester County Prothonotary, Mark Sammarone of Arthur Hall Insurance, and Rebecca Worthington of Benchmark Federal Credit Union.
